The first Orgullo Fiesta GLBT de Lanzarote – the Gay Pride of the island – culminates today with a seafront fiesta in the island’s capital, Arrecife.

GLBT groups Lanzate and Proyecto Planet joined forces with Black & White bar, Puerto del Carmen, to organise the event for the GLBT population of the island.

The sea-front party was a resounding success, after an afternoon siesta, the celebrations moved to Black & White bar in the Centro Atlantico.

Gay Guide Network provided support to Orgullo by helping to arrange online advertising, giving help and advice, and providing promotional items.

Several years ago a gay fiesta was attempted in the island’s resort of Playa Blanca. Although the day itself was a success, the event was not repeated.

“It’s so good to see the people of the island enjoying themselves and having their own Fiesta, ” says Gay Guide Network’s Simon. “The network is pleased that the local groups on the island have organised their own gay pride fiesta, with the help of the Cabildo and Ayuntiamento. We really do hope that together, Lanzate, Proyecto Planet, Black & White and Lanzarote Gay Guide can build on the success of this first pride and get even bigger for next year.”

Lanzate Lanzarote, SIDA, Black & White – Puerto del Carmen, have collaborated to bring the island this year’s Gay Pride Fiesta – Orgullo – from 23rd to 28th June.

There will be a film festival from Monday-Friday, with weekend parties at Black & White, CC Atlantico, Puerto del Carmen. The Saturday fiesta will see a music festival, drag shows and workshops in the Parque Islas Canarias, beneath the Arrecife Gran Hotel. The party continues at night in Black & White iwth go go boys and a drag show. Chupitos de la casa will be free!

Fuerteventura Gay Guide launches today.

It is the first expansion plan for the Gay Guide Network. We thought we’d see if Fuerteventura could benefit from a similar site to Lanzarote.

Having only one gay bar in Corralejo, it’s very handy for people in the South of Lanzarote also – so some cross promotion between the two guides may develop.

Lanzarote Gay Guide will unfurl a new look upon the world tomorrow, and it’s not an April Fool.

The site has switched to a new content management system which will allow for more flexibility and expansion. The layout is designed to get a user to the part of the site they need within three clicks. Further down the line, live hotel availability will be built into the system.
